Yandex is increasing its share of the mobile search market
From 24 to 31 August 2017, Yandex’s search share on Android was 42.7%, and that of Google – 56%, as shown by the data on Yandex.Radar. Compared to the same period in 2016, Yandex’s share increased by 4.5 percentage points.
According to LiveInternet, in August Google’s share on Android-based devices amounted to 70.6% and the share of Yandex was 28.5%, and in July these figures were 71.1% and 28.1% respectively. The statistics, however, take into account users all around the world, not just from Russia.
Under the agreement concluded between Google and the Federal Antimonopoly Service, starting from August in the new version of the Google Chrome Browser users from Russia can select the default search engine. Among the options offered are Yandex, Google and Mail.ru. In Yandex, this is considered the main reason for the increase of the share on Android devices.
This agreement also implies that within the next few months Google should develop the Chrome widget for new devices, which will replace the Google search widget on the main screen.
